Launch of an in-game DLC platform reveals that vehcile sections won't appear until after the game's release...

We've been busily pouring hours into BioWare's Mass Effect 2 since review code arrived, although we've got to hold off from giving you our opinion until the review embargo passes next week.

However today's release of details on the game's Cerberus Network, an in-game platform for offering future DLC, allows us to at least confirm that vehicle sections won't feature in the game until after release.

Instead the fairly poor Mako sections from the original game will be replaced with an all-new vehicle, the Hammerhead, described as a hover-tank that features "improved handling and maneuvers deftly in combat".  We'll have to wait until an unspecified time after the game's release before knowing whether it's an improvement, although we have heard that this will come for free.

DLC will however be ready on the game's release in the form of a mission that introduces Zaeed, a rugged and deadly gun-for-hire who is recruited to join Commander Shepard’s mission to save mankind, along with extra in-game items.

To activate the Cerberus network players need to enter a code bundled with the game.  It's a strategy EA has used widely in the past to discourage piracy, although the publisher did note that for players who do not buy the game new, ‘The Cerberus Network’ can be unlocked through a one-time, in-game purchase of a new activation code.  There's no details on how much this activation code will cost, but it's worth noting if you're planning to save a few quid and pick up Mass Effect 2 second-hand.

Hopefully providing its own platform is a suggestion that Mass Effect 2 will be supported with more (and more regular) DLC than the original.

because every time someone made a comment regarding multiplat games they always insist the ps3 is the inferiour version for example burnout paradise looks better on ps3 but 360 fanboys insist the 360 version looks better, the same will be for mass effect 2, even the link segaboy posted was to a typical fanboy photoshopped image (look on eurogamer theres a video with both games running side by side, if you can see any of the so called horrable textures on the ps3 youve clearly either need your eyes testing or your seeing it in fanboy vision.

as for some comment's ive seen else where, some people are convinced the first mass effect game is exclusivly only on 360 (microsoft published the 360 version, EA published the "improved" PC version) yeah the PC version is EA not microsoft.

the whole debate about not playing the first game is just typical of a 360 fanboy (not realising you cant play FF7,8 or 9 and soon FF14 on the 360 but they think they can say the same for ME1) it works both ways, and a complete idiot on youtube goes by the name GeneralMLD just shows exactly how lame a 360 fanboy will go.

and alwayslost01 Why are you quick to defend the 360, do you think the ps3 or the wii or even the pc are inferiour to the 360, maybe some people dont like my opinion maybe cause im actually right and everyone has jumped on the old "cause my console has sold more it's better" argument (forgetting the 360 is/was the most unreliable console this gen, forgetting thats why more 360's have been sold due to consoles becomming out of warrenty "the first year of 360 there was only a 1 year warrenty"resulting in people buying a new 360 when there old 1 broke).

Why are you so quick to brand everyone a '360 fanboy' every time they disagree with your opinion? Looking back over your (what I assume were your posts... it's hard to tell with no username) posts, you seem to think only the 360 has fanboys. It happens both ways, it's the way things are.

ive just watched a comparison video from eurogamer on youtube showing the ps3/360 versions running side by side and to be completly honest i diddnt see any of the texture issues that the link you posted showed (i still think those comparison screen grabs were photoshop mods) there was no issues like that and agian the link site you provided was at least 90% 360 fanboy orientated as you can clearly tell by the comments made and the initial screen grab posted.

There's a post from a 2K rep that admitted the visual issues weren't up to scratch, but they said these were from the demo - not sure, but perhaps they tidied it all up for the final release.

I always thought the original Bioshock looked worse on PS3:

i just hope with this port bioware and EA do exactly what they did with bishock and improve the graphics (the gameplay from what i remember needs little improvement as its good enough already) but with nearly a year since ME2 release i would hope this isnt just a quick port with a few added extras.

alwayslost you do have a good point about exclusives no longer being "exclusives" however if there were no exclusives there woulld be little need to own 1 or the other console if this was a reality id still have the ps3 as the 360 doesnt have a blu-ray player built in nore is it as feature rich as the ps3 and should this suddenly come down the the typical fanboy driven "and completly retar**d graphics argument" id still choose the ps3 as most of its graphics performance hasnt been tapped into yet where as its gameplay is where most fanobys dont even look, most of the time it's all about graphics and no focus on gameplay most game development on the ps3 focuses mainly on gameplay and then graphics (whats the point in a fantastic looking grafic game with little or no gameplay).

well my comment was clearly aimed at the retar**d fanboys, mainly of the 360 kind as they always waffle on about taking exclusives from the ps3 like its such a big deal, for the ps3 to take 360 exclusives just shuts these retar**d idiots up thinking that there purchase will be unbeatable (purchase of a console doesnt include share's in that console manufacture's company) so why do 360 fanboys keep bringing up sales of the new 360 "s" it may have sold more than the ps3 slim but then again the ps3 is and has allways been more reliable than the 360 and no supprise the 360 "s" is selling so well as its mile's more reliable than the old 360 most adoptors of the new 360 "s" are existing 360 owners so the actual number of new XBL subscribers hasnt realy changed.
