The Nintendo/SEGA console wars are long over but it has still taken years to get the two characters in the same game together...
SEGA Europe has today announced a game that even ten years ago would have been impossible; a game that brings two of the most iconic videogame characters together for the very first time: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.
As part of the build up to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games will see numerous characters from both brands, including the likes of Luigi, Knuckles, Yoshi, and Tails, come together and compete in events from the Games such as the 100m dash (surely the supersonic blue one will be first in that one?)
"We are thrilled to partner with Nintendo and ISM on this groundbreaking title," said Hisao Oguchi, President and Chief Operating Officer, SEGA Corporation. "For the first time, two of the world's greatest games' characters come together to compete in the world's greatest sporting event and we couldn't be more excited."
"Mario and Sonic have been respectful rivals since the early days of video games," says Shigeru Miyamoto, Senior Managing Director and General Manager, Entertainment Analysis and Development Division, Nintendo Co., Ltd.. "In fact, for a long time they have been discussing the possibility of one day competing against each other. Now that they have been given the perfect opportunity to meet at the Olympic Games, we may finally learn who is actually faster, Mario or Sonic?"
"The Olympic Games represent the true spirit of competition and passion," said Raymond Goldsmith, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ISM. "Bringing together intensely competitive and fun characters like Mario and Sonic in an Olympic setting helps showcase the sports of the Olympic Games in a new and compelling way for all generations."
Mario & Sonic at the Olympics is currently in development for Wii and Nintendo DS, and has been pencilled in for release in Christmas 2007.

the n64 (ultra 64) was made in 1997 just after the snes era which lasted quite some time till sony killed off nintendo (if only sony knew nintendo would bounce back as well as they have maybe they might have made a console that doesnt cost so much to make as they did)

Surely this is THEE best new game to hit us since Super Mario Allstars on SNES??? Only had this game since tuesday, but already completely and utterly addicted. I just can't get enough. Amazing graphics, amazing variety of games to compete in, a very wide and varied choice of characters (and best of all, you can even take your own Mii character to the olympics!!!!), amazing sound effects, and most of all, immense amounts of fun. Think about all the chocolate you could give the worlds hugest chocolate lover, or all the shoes and handbags you could give to your mother, imagine all the sports memorbillia and alcohol beverages your dad could ever wish for, or just imagine all your birthdays and christmas's just came at once! That's seriously how much fun and enjoyment i'm getting from Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. My favourite games so far are deffinately Long Jump, and 100m Swimming.. However all of the mini games have become highly addictive and entertaining wether playing by myself, with friends, or even with the family! Suitable for all players at all levels, i'd say this game is without doubt a MUST buy... and if you're too skint to buy it now, deffinately add it to your Christmas Wish List!!! Mario or Sonic?? Whichever team you're on, you're gauranteed to have hours and hours of fun, entertainment, laughter and giggles, and a lot of competing!!! If the game entered the olympics, without a doubt it'd be miles ahead of everyone else and straight in with the GOLD!!!
