Nintendo announces further details surrounding the DS Download Play options for Mario Kart...

Nintendo has today released further details about the DS Download Play options for Mario Kart DS, set for release on November 25th. Featuring 30 courses (some new and some classic tracks from Super Mario Kart, Mario Kart 64, Mario Kart: Super Circuit, and Mario Kart: Double Dash), Mario Kart DS brings classic characters from the Mario universe together once again for a series of races around the Mushroom Kingdom.

Wi-Fi multiplayer options obviously play a significant area of gameplay in the title, and as well as offering â??Multi-Card playâ??, Mario Kart DS will also be DS Download Play enabled so that up to eight players can race through eight different tracks on a single card. Although there are obvious limitations placed on gamers when playing DS Download Play â?“ for instance, players without a Mario Kart DS card are limited to playing as a Shy Guy, and vehicles are capped at 100cc class â?“ there should still be enough gameplay to keep the karting action going for hours on end. Obviously Multi-Card play has no such limitations, with gamers playing locally also being automatically added to the â??Friends Rosterâ?? so future play via Nintendo DS connection can be achieved. Ghost data is also saved when Multi-Card play is in action, as well as win/lose ratiosâ?¦

Players utilising the free online gameplay service, Nintendo DS Connection, will be able to engage in Mario Kart action with up to three other players simultaneously with gamers being able to choose whether they want to play with Friends Only, Rivals (player with similar skill levels), Recent Opponents, Regional Racers (players in their country) or World Racers. Track choice via Connection is democratic with players voting on the track they wish to race, the one with the most votes is chosen, when tracks receive an equal number of votes a random choice is made.

In order to access Nintendo DS Connection, players can either go to an official Nintendo hotspot, or use their wireless routers (configuring their DS with the relevant router information.) By using a DS to USB connecter players can also play via their Broadband connection without the need for a Wi-Fi router.

Weâ??ll have more coverage on Mario Kart DS shortly...

Onother thing I do have a little complaint about that I did not add is on Wi-Fi. HACKING ISSUES. they can be so annoying. The next time they make a great game like this, don't make it so that you can HACK. This very reason is why not many people play online anymore. I ENCURAGE those who do hack to STOP PLEASE!! THANK YOU.

This is the AI that has governed the Mario Kart series since the dawn of time...

You could aim those kinds of criticisms at pretty much every Mario Kart game ever made.

Things like one CPU character having a strong tendency to win on a specific circuit have been in pretty much every Mario Kart. It's almost so synonymous with the series that Nintendo probably programs that sort of AI in on purpose. In single-player, the challenge has always been more about beating the circuit rather than racing against realistic AI anyway.

The stuff with power-ups has always been a factor too. Obviously there's always been a stronger chance of getting good power-ups when you're at the front of the pack rather than the back. In Mario Kart 64, you basically only got mushrooms and banana skins when you were at the front. Likewise, in the original SNES game the AI didn't ever appear to get the feather power-up.

It's just the way it goes with Mario Kart. You end up loving it for the inconsistencies, as the developers have almost certainly added them in on purpose (often just to frustrate gamers I expect).

Good game. I do want to point out a few things I don't like.

1. The blue shell. It always comes when You are in first not the CPU.

2. Why does only 1 CPU get first no matter what while the rest of them don't Even try to catch up?.

3. I did notice none of the CPUs get a 3 red Shell item and you do. 4/5 stars for me. Good game.
