Mario & Sonic at the Winter Olympics gets confirmed for Vancouver 2010 by the event's Director of Licensing and Merchandising...
After SEGA announced last week that it had obtained the official license to produce games for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, it seemed that it would only be a matter of time before Mario & Sonic 2 would get confirmed - a matter of six days in fact.
Vancouver 2010's Director of Licensing and Merchandising, Dennis Kim, is the source of today's news. He told The Province that SEGA intends to make use of the license by developing an official game of the event as well as a Mario & Sonic tie-in.
"Last year, 2008, they had a very successful game using Mario and Sonic at the Beijing Games, as well as a multi-sport simulation type of game," stated Kim. "That's what's being discussed and planned for Vancouver. We are feeling optimistic about sales because of the Beijing experience."
SEGA and International Sports Multimedia (which handles Olympic licenses for the International Olympic Committee) announced last week that the Japanese publisher had retained its Olympic license from Beijing 2008 for Vancouver 2010.
International Sports Multimedia had previously told TVG that it was in negotiation with games publishers over the Vancouver 2010 videogame license.
