SEGA discusses the performance of The House of the Dead: Overkill and Madworld; suggests sequels are up to Wii owners...

We've been slightly dismayed by the inability of SEGA's MadWorld to make a dent in the UK charts.  Sure the game charted at No.34, but then sank quicker than a signpost through the head, i.e. it didn't stay around for very long.  The House of the Dead: Overkill faired slightly better in the UK, debuting at No.15 and spending nearly a month in the UK All Format Top 40.

Still it would be hard to describe either title as a runaway success, and it does pose the question: Do Wii owners really want core video games?

Well it seems SEGA thinks so.  Speaking to Venture Beat, Sean Ratcliffe vice president of marketing at Sega of America had the following to say about the performance of both titles:

"House of the Dead has done very well and has absolutely met our expectations. The first set of data for Mad World is very encouraging, as well."

When speaking about the possibility of MadWorld spawning a series, Ratcliffe continued, "If it resonates with the audience, yes, we absolutely want to make that into a franchise," before adding "I think it's unique, and there are many aspects of that game which are sort of pushing boundaries. And it's just great fun."

Lets face the fact: There are much more adults who have a Wii than the kiddy-consoles Xbox and PS3.

OMG the videogame haters are going to have fun with this. The visual style is very nice, but surely it's an easy way to classify it as fantasy when it comes to the BBFC - shrewd!
