Confirmation of a late March release date for the Platinum Games title...

One of the highlights for the first quarter of 2009, MadWorld, has today been slated for a UK release on March 20th.  The heavily-stylised title, developed by Platinum Games and published by SEGA Europe, is one of only a few 'hardcore' video games targeted for Wii during the early part of the year.

News of MadWorld's release comes in an interview between producer Atsushi Inaba and UK trade mag MCV, in which Ianaba-san spoke about some of the notoriety surrounding the content of the game:

“In terms of the violence, we expected to have some criticism...But at the end of the day we are creating a game that is suitable only for a mature audience. Some people may take offence but you just can’t please everyone. I hope that gamers will appreciate the game as a form of entertainment and not focus on the irreverent violent content.”

The British Board of Film Classification rated MadWorld an 18+, passing it with no cuts made, in mid-January.  Despite that, MadWorld has been the target of some conservative groups in the UK for its over-the-top, stylised violence.

Lets face the fact: There are much more adults who have a Wii than the kiddy-consoles Xbox and PS3.

OMG the videogame haters are going to have fun with this. The visual style is very nice, but surely it's an easy way to classify it as fantasy when it comes to the BBFC - shrewd!
