Capcom confirms what improvements will appear in the update available from day one...

Following the promise of enlarging the text for Xbox 360 owners that have yet to jump into the HD era, Capcom today announced further changes that the team behind Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions is currently including within the Xbox 360 title.

Set for release in a patch when the game arrives on January 12th, many of the changes are designed to improve the game's matchmaking and lobby features based upon feedback from the multiplayer demo that was released earlier in the year.

Although there's few revolutionary changes, the improvements should enhance the overall multiplayer aspects of Lost Planet: Extreme Conditions and iron out any of the frustrating niggles that fans identified.

The list of improvements made by the update include:

  • Private slots can be set by host.
  • Invite friends to a match.
  • Number of players in a room will be displayed next to name of the room.
  • Players will not be kicked all the way out to the main menu if they try to join a full game.
  • New button allows players to refresh the match list without going out to the main menu and selecting Quick Match again.
  • Players will now go to a post-game lobby at the end of a match, not kicked back to the main menu.
  • The ability to replay a match with the same group without leaving the post-game lobby Cycling maps on replayed matches when map selection is set to Random.
  • Text size on the team selection screen will be greatly increased when using non-HD resolutions.
  • When manual team selection is set to ON, players will have 20 seconds to form teams.
  • The time limit on each match will be maxed out at 60 minutes, instead of the current unlimited time.
  • A player's custom match criteria will now be saved.

I've got to be honest, I experienced no framerate issues while reviewing the game. Yes, PS3 games have been well known for it with previous ports/multi-format releases, but I experienced no slow-down at all (even during the busier boss battle sections). This is PS3 game that doesn't have that problem.

This is one of the most honest reviews for this version I have read next to Game Informer, and Playstation the official magazine. PSM3 and IGN are full of it

The framerate issues are blown way out of proportion by what I suspect to be xbox fanboys masquerading as un-bias editors. Don't believe the horrible scores, the game is not exacly the same but it is far from unplayable and the framerate is stable 80% of the time and when it dips it never gets that bad. The graphics are spot on with the 360 with the only differences being lighting and fire effects. I have played both versions and one is not overly better then another. The 360 one runs marginally better but the PS3 gives you all the DLC for free. If your on the fence just buy it, it is a great game. I bought it yesterday and I am glad I did.

You forgot to address the constant frame-rate problems plaguing this game.

Excellent, it's a shame Capcom haven't done enough to differentiate it from the 360 version, it makes forking over £40 much harder, especially when the 360 version can be found for a mere £20 if you look hard enough
