Media Molecule casts doubt on the possibility of a sequel to 2008's critically acclaimed LittleBigPlanet...
Despite the fact that Media Molecule has spoken openly about a possible LittleBigPlanet sequel in the past, the developer has now cast doubt over the prospect of LittleBigPlanet 2 ever emerging from its Guildford based studio.
Media Molecule Producer, Martin Lynagh told Critical Gamer, "I think what you've seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that's the way it's going to continue," he commented in reference to DLC updates for the current game.
Level Designer, Danny Leaver then took Lynagh's statement one step further by indicating that Media Molecule doesn't want to risk splitting the LittleBigPlanet community by releasing a sequel.
"We'd never want to do that," said Leaver. "That'd be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think."
We're not quite sure how to take this. On the one hand, it's refreshing to see a developer paying this sort of respect to its community. On the other hand, there are still a lot more prospects for the LittleBigPlanet universe that could be added with a full sequel.

That sounds like a good opinion you have. I've got to say, I didn't know that water is on the way. That's usually something that developers introduce in a sequel (well, either that or the ability to swim in it).
Given that the major updates for LBP have been free so far, it's got to be said that Media Molecule could be one of, if not the most committed developer to its community.
Perhaps Media Molecule is making enough money out of micro-transactions (e.g. downloadable costumes and stuff) that they can keep supporting LBP indefinitely without the need to expand and do a sequel.

well it depends how much they can add to the actual engine via updates i think. i know water is on the way, which is exciting. if they can do dramatic big changes like that then it's all good imo.

I heard an interesting piece of gossip about Alex Evans on the weekend - apparently he's gone all showbiz on his old friends...
Inside source told me that one ;-)
