Media Molecule Co-founder, Alex Evans speaks candidly about a possible sequel to last year's LittleBigPlanet...

There's no doubting LittleBigPlanet's success: a stratospheric Metacritic score of 95 and official worldwide sales figures of over 1.3 million units as of last January. The game also remained in the UK top 40 chart until the end of March this year thanks to price reductions at retail.

LittleBigPlanet's user-generated content is also something that gamers have warmed to, creating approximately 2 million levels for the game so far, which compares to 725,000 as of last February. This clearly indicates that despite slow initial sales, LittleBigPlanet's long-term appeal has not waivered.

It's a point that Media Molecule Co-founder, Alex Evans talked about in a recent interview with gi.biz where he spoke about the possibility of making current user-generated content backwards compatible in a prospective sequel.

"We're getting on for 2 million levels that have been published now," Evans revealed. "If you look at online distribution for LBP, when the sequel comes along, what do we do with all that content? I think we can give consumers lots of stuff that you couldn't in a traditional game. We can give them backwards compatibility with those levels, and then when you decide on how you're going to sell that to them."

He does seem to suggest that LittleBigPlanet 2 is inevitable by saying "when the sequel comes along" rather than, "if the sequel comes along". Evans was then asked whether this meant LBP2 was in the works, to which he answered:

"Well, I'd love there to be a sequel, put it that way. But that's not an announcement - although I will say that the entire team is working on LBP."

Sounds like there's going to be a sequel then.

I'd actually be fine with them not making any more LBP games. They can give us a nice DLC package once a year or whatever. I mean, this is THE game that pretty much never ends and has new stuff available anytime you pop it in.

Let them do something else if they have ideas.

According to James Spafford, Media Molecule's Community Manager, LBP isn't going anywhere any time soon. The main message: Don't panic!

Check out LBPC thread about this very topc, post #18 (can't link to it, BOO.)

true.  however the psp version was still brilliant.  and the vita version is being done by a studio full of ex rockstar employees, so hopes are high.  (imo)

It's important to note that the Vita version (like the PSP version before it) is not being developed by Media Molecule.

I expected this game to get higher but nontheless this is its score. I encourage anyone who likes platformers to get this game. To me its a ten and thats all that matters. The main story was not as great as the first but still pretty good, and there will be millions of levels to play from other people as people have already started making them. It really is a platform for platformers and there is hundreds of hours of replayability.

stuff looking at reviews who gives a f*** about a review score, take GT5 for example this site gave it 9/10 where as others gave it lower scores some even went as far as giving it 5/10 does that mean its bad, play the f*****g game to get a first impression, if you like it you like it if not then try somthing else.

again anyone who only goes by review scores as its been clearly pointed out COD is way overhyped are just moronic sheep, stop judging games by reviews, gwynne dixon diddnt like the saboteur as he blatently said in his review however i found it to be a very good story driven sandbox game and i liked it.

you sheep need to stop going by reviews and get on with gaming, if you carry on moaning your not gamers your just sad retarded fanboys.

not at all.  i up until last week was still playing little big planet, it's still amazing.  played the beta for little big planet 2 and it just adds on every single aspect of the game.  from presentation, to level design, to design tools, graphics, sound, everything.  it's absolutely everything you could ever ask of a game sequel.  the only issue i ever read about being 'bad' in little big planet, is the game physics.  and you can even change them in little big planet 2 to totally suit you how you want it to be.  whether sonic-like speed or mario like accuracy.  the game is easily game of the year so far.  basically, i will buy the game regardless of the scores given by reviews.  but it's just such a shame to see developers lose out to sheep that actually DO follow their favourite sites advice.  especially when games like modern warfare 2, which let's face it was a big let down, get's such a out of proportionally high score.  believe it or not, some people do look for reviews of games before buying them, especially when they are on a budget and can only afford a couple every 2 months or so.  rant over anyway lol.
