Left 4 Dead will receive a new portion of DLC two months before the sequel launches in November...
True to its word, Valve hasn't forgotten about fans of the original Left 4 Dead by announcing a further portion of DLC for the co-op shooter called 'Crash Course', which will launch for Xbox 360 and PC in September.
'Crash Course' will come free of charge to PC users and cost Xbox 360 owners 560 Microsoft Points (£4.76). While it does include both Survival maps and a new co-op Campaign, the main aim of 'Crash Course' is to deliver a "complete Versus mode experience in just 30 minutes" according to Valve.
The DLC will bridge the gap between Left 4 Dead's existing 'No Mercy' and 'Death Toll' campaigns, and is primed to expand "the game universe with new locations, new dialogue from the original cast, and an explosive finale".
In addition, a recharge timer has been added for infected teammates and Valve has also tweaked "item spawn behaviour," in order to provide, "more balanced gameplay".
"Since the release of Left 4 Dead last November, the design team has been excited about creating new experiences for this world and allowing players to do the same, by releasing much of our internal toolset, like the Survival Pack and Authoring Tools," said Gabe Newell. "We're working with the fans toward the ongoing entertainment value of the product."
Valve also revealed that Left 4 Dead has sold almost 3 million units worldwide, which isn't half bad and certainly props the game far above the profit margin for a triple A release. No doubt Left 4 Dead 2 will perform equally well with all the publicity it's received this year.
