Left 4 Dead Free Trial Tomorrow News
Valve announces that gamers can play Left 4 Dead for free via Steam tomorrow...
By Gwynne DixonPosted: 30/04/2009
We've received word from Valve that Left 4 Dead will be made freely available over Steam tomorrow with a Freaky Free Friday promotion allowing gamers to sample its delights and maybe, just maybe, buy the game afterwards if they want to.
Given that the promotion is taking place over Steam, only PC users will be eligible for the free trial, which will commence at 12:01am GMT tomorrow (that's 1:01am for us British Summer Time folks).
Gamers can pre-load everything they need to play the game now and then commence the zombie apocalypse straight after midnight tonight. The trial is for 24 hours of free Left 4 Dead gaming, although we'll bet that you end up longing for more after that.
This Freaky Free Friday offer comes complete with Left 4 Dead's recently released Survival DLC.

not at all valve is full of bs and i will tell you why. qoute:"It's not like we're [Valve is] looking at this as, 'Oh my god, we need some money, we're going to charge,' obviously, or we'd do it on the PC!!!! he says...now why would someone buy crash course for the pc when they get all sorts of maps for free already pc version has all knid of downloadable campaigns made by the comunnity. SO DUH of course you would charge PC users because why buy this 30 min campaign. it would be dumb on valve to try to charge.but xbox on the other has none of these maps period so it's a good way to hustle us outta our money

When did we say EA does have the publishing rightsfor Left 4 Dead? Clearly Valve controls the intellectual property of all the games its developed.
Left 4 Dead was distributed via the EA Partners program (similarly to Crysis and Brutal Legend), which basically allows developers to maintain creative control of their game and have it distributed by EA.
However, Gabe Newell said before Left 4 Dead was released that if a PS3 version of L4D did get developed, then it would be ported by an EA team (as was the case with The Orange Box on PS3). This does not mean that EA would take the publishing rights for that port, although it would undoubtedly take a cut of the profits.
