NetDevil's Lego MMO, Lego Universe, will not release during 2009 as previously planned...
The Lego Group and developer NetDevil have announced that the in development Lego MMO, Lego Universe, will not ship during its previously slated 2009 release window and will now effectively be prepped for a 2010 launch.
This news comes from MTV's Multiplayer blog, where Project Lead Mark Hansen explained that NetDevil and The Lego Group have decided to delay the game's launch due to the large number of Lego products that are due for release in 2009.
"We've made a strategic decision within Lego to delay the launch of Lego Universe," he said. "It's more strategic in relation to product launches that we have within Lego and not the game. [We have] new product lines that are coming out... We don't want to make a big splash [with Lego Universe] in the market where its success could take focus away from [the other products]. It's about finding the timing, and when it is correct that we should actually launch [Lego Universe] to get the most effect out of it."
Hansen also spoke positively about the possibility of the game eventually coming to consoles.
"I definitely see Lego Universe coming to consoles. When? I know there's a few other [MMO] titles in the works coming onto consoles. We're still evaluating when it would be best to come out on console," Hansen explained.
However, he also revealed that no console versions are currently in development and that any prospective games probably won't launch alongside the PC game.
