MTV Games, Harmonix, and TT Games announce a new member of the Rock Band family...

We already knew of its existence, but MTV Games and Harmonix have today confirmed that Lego Rock Band is being developed by TT Games and is scheduled for release later this year on PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii (a DS version is also being developed by Foundation 9 Entertainment).

As you might expect, the title will be aimed at a more casual audience, with the press blurb stating that Lego Rock Band "will allow families, tweens and teens to experience a wild journey to rock stardom".

Sources have previously suggested to TVG that there may be hope for some Lego themed peripherals for the title, although all that MTV Games and Harmonix are announcing at this stage is that the game will be compatible with existing Rock Band controllers.

As well as providing a list of tracks that are a bit more family friendly than the usual Rock Band offerings, this Lego iteration will also allow gamers to construct their own Rock Band avatars from the iconic Danish building blocks.

So far, four tracks have been confirmed for the game:

Blur - 'Song 2'
Carl Douglas - 'Kung Fu Fighting'
Europe - 'The Final Countdown'
Good Charlotte - 'Boys and Girls'
Pink - 'So What'

"Lego Rock Band combines two compelling properties and creates an experience that family members of all ages will enjoy playing together as a group," said Tom Stone, the Managing Director of TT Games. "Harmonix and MTV Games are the world experts in music gameplay, and we're genuinely thrilled to bring the unique and humour-filled Lego experience to their Rock Band universe."

"Rock Band is a social game experience that crosses every generation and every genre of rock," said Bob Picunko, the Senior Vice-President of Electronic Games for MTV Games. "Harmonix and MTV Games are big fans of the Lego game franchise and excited to work with TT Games to develop a new take on Rock Band that focuses on great music and Lego humour that's fun for the whole family."
