LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 gets the full announcement treatment from Warner Bros. Interactive...

Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and TT Games have announced LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, which will follow the storylines of the first four books/films and is currently due for release sometime next year.

The existence of a brick-based Harry Potter adventure has been doing the rounds as rumour for a while now, with Warner Bros. now choosing the run-up to E3 for the official announcement.

In the usual LEGO fashion, Gamers will be able to play as a range of characters from the series, including Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, and of course Harry himself. At this stage, gameplay appears to be based around a list of the usual Potter activities: flying on broomsticks, attending lessons, earning house points, and mixing potions etc.

As far as playable environments are concerned, Hogwarts Castle, Diagon Alley, the village of Hogsmeade, and the Forbidden Forest have been confirmed at the moment and you can probably expect more in the final game as well.

"With LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 we are creating an open, wide-ranging experience within Hogwarts that is full of fun and LEGO magic," said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. "Harry Potter is one of the most beloved and well-respected characters, and we look forward to bringing gamers a new way of interacting in the universe with the LEGO games' great humour and exploration."

Although no platforms have been officially announced at this time, it's highly likely that the usual multiplatform suite of formats will make the list as we've come to expect from TT Games' LEGO titles (i.e. Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PS2, DS, PSP).
