Warner Bros. Buys Up Travellers Tales News
The studio giant acquires the UK studio behind LEGO Star Wars and LEGO Batman...
By Jon WilcoxPosted: 08/11/2007
Warner Brothers has today confirmed the acquisition of Travellers Tales, the UK-based studio behind the massively successful LEGO Star Wars series, for an undisclosed fee.
"TT Games is very successful and respected in the game development and publishing world," said Barry Meyer, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. "They are a great fit for us and the right next step for Warner Bros. as we grow into a significant presence in the games space."
"TT Games is the leading video game developer for young gamers and their families," said Kevin Tsujihara, president of Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group. "The expertise that TT Games brings to Warner Bros. is a great match with our brands as well as an opportunity to effectively leverage our existing global infrastructure."
The studio is currently working on developing LEGO Batman, and as if working on that and LEGO Star Wars doesn't feature enough little plastic bricks from Denmark, TT Games is also working on LEGO Indiana Jones.
"After 18 years in the video games industry, the opportunity to become a meaningful part of the world's leading entertainment company is the fulfillment of a dream," said Jon Burton, managing director of Traveller's Tales. "Now that we are part of Warner Bros., I think it's safe to say we are exactly where we want to be."
"Warner Bros. has an extraordinary track record in nurturing and developing intellectual property in television, in movies and now in games," said Tom Stone, managing director of TT Games Publishing. "That history combined with their world class distribution muscle promises a very exciting future for all of us at TT Games."
"TT Games will become the cornerstone of our Home Entertainment Group's family-focused games strategy," added Tsujihara. "This is a great marriage and Warner Bros. will enthusiastically encourage the ongoing growth and development of TT Games."
LEGO Batman is due for release in 2008, with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment also set to launch the adaptation of the Wachowski Brothers' Spped Racer movie, and Monolith Productions' F.E.A.R. sequel, Project: Origin.

I'd like to see a LEGO GTA though - that would be pretty cool. Never gonna happen, but those Kubrick models would be pretty cool inspiration.

.... Now why don't the dorks at Ubisoft, which probably did the best batman game ever, in otherwords, pretty good, take something like an Assassin's creed concept & marry it into a batman n' gotham city game... Beat the lugnuts treatment, eh?

Comic strips games, rich source material for games, have always been bad... why? probably due to development teams, simply being apathetic (half-asz) with the material, there's really no excuse for this... EX: EA's superman returns? come on now... fun super powers experience, but not doing the same thing, again n' again n' again... hello, this isn't gauntlet. Well... if ya'll like chasing legos lugs around, have @ it... I'm sure this 1 will deliver... When will GTA legos be released? btw?
