Chart Attack: Killzone 2 Dominates Halo Wars Feature

A new rivalry was pumped into the UK charts this week, with Microsoft's Halo Wars facing off against Killzone 2 for the No.1 spot. Sony's FPS beat-out Halo Wars' strategic offensive to hold the top spot, becoming the second fastest selling game in PS3 history (behind GT5: Prologue).

Despite Halo Wars' second place, its performance as a console RTS game is nothing short of groundbreaking. It managed to sell three times faster than its nearest RTS rival on the Xbox 360, Command and Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars. 

It was a short stint atop Chart Track's all formats chart for Capcom's Street Fighter IV, which dropped in behind the two new entries, Killzone 2 and Halo Wars, at No.3 after debuting at No.1 last week.

Wii Fit's stamina is finally beginning to wane after the game managed to string together a five week stint at No.1 earlier this year. The balance board aided title dropped from No.2 to No.4 this week, while previous chart toppers FIFA 09 and Call of Duty: World at War finally started dropping down the charts, coming in at No.7 and No.8 respectively this week.

Professor Layton and the Curious Village returned to the top ten by jumping from No.11 to No.5 (its sales being boosted by new stock), while the SEGA Mega Drive Ultimate Collection moved up one place to No.6 this week.

Ben 10: Alien Force dropped five places to No.9, while Mario Kart Wii rounded off the top 10 with a one position drop to No.10. After an impressive first week on the charts at No.3, THQ's Dawn of War II has quickly slipped to No.18 this week.

Sales By Format

The Xbox 360's dominance of Chart Track's individual format sales figures (which chart games according to individual platform sales, rather than by title alone) is evident for everyone to see this week. The console was responsible for 12 games on the top 40 while the Wii, PS3, and DS took away fairly even portions of eight or nine games each.

When these figures are compared to numbers since the beginning of the year, you can clearly see how the last two weeks have seen big changes in each console's performance. The Xbox 360 and PS3 have returned to prominence, while Nintendo's consoles have shown significant drop-offs.
