Avalanche studios are set to demonstrate their new game engine at the Tokyo Game Show...
Avalanche studios are preparing to demonstrate the second version of their game engine at the Tokyo Game Show. This new instalment is designed to provide "advanced scalable landscapes and high end characterisation" specifically for next-gen machines.
The original Avalanche engine was pioneered for the Stockholm based companies in-house production Just Cause, which featured the fictional island 'San Esperito' which could be explored in a sandbox style by Rico Rodriguez with the help of a parachute and various flying machines.
Improvements to the Avalanche engine in this latest version include the support for the transition between different climate zones, and advancements to animation that provide more lifelike character models with advanced facial rendering and emotional modelling as well as improved AI. The new engine will allow Avalanche developers to create even more expansive environments than were previously possible under the first version.
Christofer Sundburg, Avalanche Studios CEO, commented on Avalanche 2.0: "Ultimately the engine will enable us to create games of epic scale and with great variation across genres and artistic styles for the next generation of gaming experiences. The latest screen shots speak for themselves, with detail that has never before been seen in characterisation and game landscaping."
Here at TVG, we believe there is just cause to believe - see what we did there? - that this new engine will be put to use on Avalanche's sequel to their million selling Just Cause title.

Ummm... the 360/PS3/PC versions look pretty much identical - have you seen the game running?

unfortunatly justcause 2 wont be comming to the ps2 as its just not able to compete with the ps3 (though the ps2 still pisses all over the 360) but as the devs dont want loads of bugs in the game code they want to be able to update the game, maybe even offer expansions to it like fallout 3's expansions on the 360.
best of all though the ps3 version will look miles better than the 360 version end of argument the ps3 is the better console.

'Tis a good game until one gets to the very end and is punished like crazy with over the top AI and just impossible-ness!.... A lil more balancing required me thinks! :)

It's gone suspiciously quiet and with talk of their next title and Eidos current predicament, I'm not entirely sure whether this will see the light of day...
