Jet Force Gemini is looking like another AAA title FROM Rare.

Jet Force Gemini

Any games developer that can come up with one game as eye-popping as this per year would have to be brilliant, but to bring out 3 ground breaking titles all in one hit, there is only one word to describe it….Rare. Jet Force Gemini is one of those 3 titles and it looks set to redefine the 3D-shooter genre. First off you have 3 characters to choose from, Juno- the commanding male of the team, Vela- the arse kicking babe and Lupus- the cyborg dog with a huge cannon strapped to his back (kids, don’t try this at home). They all have different abilities and they all must be used if the game is going to be completed. As we’ve come to expect from Rare, this game ain’t no ‘WAM BAM Thankyou MAAM’ experience. There’s planed to be over 70 hours of game-play packed into the cartridge which means this ain’t no one night stand (or sitting for that matter).

The levels are absolutely enormous, and you’ll have to explore every inch of them if you plan on getting everything this game has to offer, not that this is a bad thing though since you will often find one of the games whoop-arse weapons lying around where you’d least expect it. Speaking of weapons, JFG has learned from Goldeneye’s success and now contains such an intergalactic arsenal for carving, slicing and dicing that you’ll be wondering how the hell your character is supposed to carry it all and move at the same time! These futuristic beasties range from your standard lasers and percussion grenades to machine cannons and even razor sharp bladed boomerangs.

Even with all that gob-smacking weaponry though, don’t expect to be waltzing from room to room with your eyes closed and your finger on the trigger ‘cause fortunately (or unfortunately depending on how you look at it) these little buggers have been trained to strafe, jump and attack in sequential numbers so you’ll be dead 5 times before you hit the ground if you don’t pay attention to what’s goin on. Not only will they be smart but they won’t be small either. Ranging from the every day one hit one-kill guys up to your 15-foot muscle-bound killing machines and to your lightning fast winged attackers. Well at least you’ll know when your feeling lonely and deserted, there will always be those dependable understanding flesh eating alien beasts around the next corner to keep you feeling special.

The graphics of JFG really make you want to stand back and admire the scenery. The transparencies caused by the games multiple explosions and the real time lighting from the games many weapons just makes you think, what in the world are those other third-party companies doing all day with lame releases like Superman and Bomber Man Hero?! All the characters are rendered beautifully with bright vibrant colours and cool designs but special mention must go to the main characters. Even their facial expressions are awesome. The animations are flawless and little touches like your character looking back over their shoulder as they walk backwards and them playing with their weapons when you leave them alone for long enough all add up to make this game a wonder to watch.

Single player, every game’s got one, but how many have a 2player Co-operative mode? Jet Force Gemini does and it’s going to be an amazing experience. Just think, you sneak round into an enemy camp, fire a few shots over the alien’s unsuspecting heads to draw their attention as your partner sneaks around the back way and cuts them down before they know what’s hit ’em! Not only this though, there is also a 4-player deathmatch mode and a spacecraft racing game and a target range to test your skills on. Now I’ve heard of mutliplayer options before, but this time Rare’s really taken the cake……..the table, the chairs and repossessed the house.

It may see that considering the hype surrounding the upcoming Donkey Kong and Perfect Dark that this will end up being the lesser of the 3, but trust me when I say that this games got easily enough to stand on its own.
