Having had a successful stint on the PS2, James Bond is set to appear on both the Xbox and GameCube...
Bond in video games will be forever synonymous with Goldeneye on the N64 and since the license passed into those deep pockets at Electronic Arts we’ve had countless variations of Bond games all failing to recapture the magic that Rare created. James Bond 007 Agent Under Fire was first released for the Playstation 2 at the end of last year to a positive response and healthy sales. It comes as no surprise that EA who are supporting the Xbox in a big way, have announced that Agent Under Fire will also be appearing on the Microsoft machine.

The game is not based on any particular Bond film but instead draws its inspiration from all of the films to create a unique adventure. This is a welcome change because most of us who have played any video game based on a film for the most part will know the story, twists and ending before we even pick up the controller. With Agent Under Fire this is not the case and it draws you into the Bond universe. As you expect from EA this game has high production and presentation values extending to the storyline as well. Predictably, a criminal mastermind (Malprave) is on the loose intent on controlling the world through his cunning plan. Through his use of clones Malpraves’ threat to world peace is growing by the day and only James Bond can save the day. Expect the usual suspects to provide help including the wonderful Zoe Nightside – surely taken from outstanding No One Lives Forever game?

Part of the joy of being Bond is gadgets, yes gadgets and Agent Under Fire is stockpiled with them. Rather than just create a standard first person shooter full of guns and fashionable stealth the game offers a variety of styles including driving sections mixed in with heroic feats. There are twelve missions set amidst ten locations spread across the world with each providing numerous enemies intent of stopping you succeeding. One moment you can expect to be sneaking inside a mansion taking out guards then racing down the street in your BMW guns blazing. The driving sections are a particular highlight as these were created especially by the Need For Speed team and include the BMW, Aston Martin and MGF34 Tank as seen in the Bond films.
