SCEA give us the complete low-down on Jak & Daxter’s latest and last adventure on the Playstation2…

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) today confirmed that the forthcoming release of Jak 3 will conclude the trilogy, possibly marking the last time weâ??ll ever see Jak and Daxter on the Playstation2 â?“ unless they farm out the franchise to another developer as was the case with Crash Bandicoot.

Itâ??s claimed that Jak 3 will finish the trilogy with a truly plot-driven adventure game, filled with betrayal, death and a long-awaited understanding of the Precursor civilisation that has, until now, remained a mystery â?“ whether or not Daxter will finally be transformed into his human shape still remains a mystery however.

In a revealing glimpse of the story set to unfold in Jak 3, one year has passed since Jak and Daxter saved Haven City from Kor and the Metal Heads, yet Haven City still finds itself immersed in deadly chaos as three groups fight for control of the streets.

Despite his exploits, the people of Haven City have grown to distrust Jak and his dark powers, and as rumours boil of Jakâ??s ties with Kor and the Metalheads, the city blames Jak for its current woeful circumstances. When the palace is destroyed by a surprise Metalhead attack, even Ashelin cannot protect Jak from the High Council and Count Veger. Jak finds himself exiled into the desolate wastelands; with Daxter and Pecker by his side, the three must begin their new adventure where the battle for the city has just begun.

Naughty Dog claims that the Wastelands offer an environment five times the size of Haven City, combining multiple areas including deserts, mines and a volcano. Given the size of the environment, various vehicles are set to make a comeback, with off-road vehicles making a new introduction and showing off the games true-to-life physics engine.

With a rugged new look and suited with armour, Jak also finds himself equipped with an arsenal of new weapons with upgradeable mods that enable players to increase their firepower and take advantage of the strategies employed by these.

Having been possessed by Dark Eco in Jak II: Renegade, Jak finds himself exposed to Light Eco this time around, and as such can transform into LightJak. With a glowing electric-blue aura and a massive wing span, LightJak can take advantage of a number of new moves including the ability to glide great distances, emit an energy beam to block enemy attacks, and power up at anytime. Those still longing to play on the dark side will be pleased to know that DarkJak will return with new abilities, forcing the player to choose the balance between Light and Dark.

For the first time in the franchise (and presumably last), Jak 3 makes use of realistic rag-doll physics, which allows every enemy to have unique death animations; whilst Naughty Dog have also implemented independent cloth movement technology and enhanced the enemy AI through smart formation capabilities and the ability to climb walls.

Certainly Jak 3 should mark a fitting end to one of the most popular series on the Playstation2; weâ??ll have more information soon.
