Square Enix Europe finally puts official word to Hitman 5...

Following years of rumours, Sqaure Enix Europe has finally confirmed that its IO Interactive studio is developing a fifth instalment in the Hitman series entitled Hitman Absolution.

The game will be released on Xbox 360, PS3, and PC platforms with a wide 2012 release window latched onto the project at this stage.

Further to the teaser trailer below, details on the game are thin on the ground at the moment, although Sqaure Enix has been kind enough to share a couple of storyline shards.

It seems this is Agent 47's most dangerous contact to-date (they always are) as the skin-headed assassin finds himself amid a deep conspiracy that has the police hunting him down and those he trusted betraying him.

"For the first time we are taking Agent 47 on a personal journey which allows us to explore other parts of the Hitman fantasy," said Tore Blystad, Game Director, IO Interactive. "This is both a familiar and yet significantly different experience to any of the other Hitman games, something our silent assassins will relish as well as those who are new to the Hitman world."

Hitman Absolution is being built using IO Interactive's proprietary Glacier 2 technology, and is apparently a blend of the Hitman series' classic gameplay as well as new features for the series.

A futuristic Hitman could be great, with some missions taking place in cyberspace.

Beating a trojan with a Norton gun, slicing the throat of a Worm with the K of Kaspersky, pure sequel.

Hitman 5 will happen soon. I read between the lines in that spokesperson's statement as "the concept art does not officially represent the new Hitman game that we are working on."
