Bill Roper's new venture sheds the details on its eagerly awaited first title...

Flagship Studios today lifted the wraps from its first title in development in conjunction with NAMCO Hometek. Billed as a role-playing-game set in an immersive first-person perspective, Hellgate: London promises a completely randomized game world that offers a unique experience every time.

"HELLGATE: LONDON is an incredibly ambitious title that will break the mold of conventional role-playing games," said Nobuhiro Kasahara, President and CEO of Namco Hometek, Inc. "With Flagship Studios' unprecedented experience, we are confident that HELLGATE: LONDON will be one of the most anticipated PC games ever."

"With our first game, we intend to create something unique in the world of RPGs," said Bill Roper, CEO and co-founder of Flagship Studios. "By focusing our expertise and creative energy onto this one title, we are crafting a compelling world that combines massive amounts of randomization and customisation to offer infinite replayability."

Set twenty-five years into the future amidst a demon-ridden world scorched by hellfire, mankind has been forced underground to survive; amongst them are the Templar, an archaic and secret society that foresaw the demon invasion many centuries ago. With belief in the arcane rights, the Templar combines futuristic technology with ancient artefacts to forge powerful weapons and armour against the demons.

Naturally set within London, the humans make use of the London Underground system to provide safe conduct throughout the sprawling metropolis, as they seek to preserve the bloodline of man and gain a foothold against the minions of darkness.

TVG is checking Hellgate: London and chatting with Flagship Studios at E3'05; so be sure to keep looking back for more information on what is shaping up to be an enticing prospect.

The decision to shut servers has nothign to do with EA.  They merely distributed the game.  The decision was Namco-Bandai's to shut the game as they owned publishing rights.  They sold the Asian rights to Hanbitsoft, who are currently running Hellgate: London in that territory - but have no rights to run the game anywhere else.

Bye bye Hellgate, I'd like to say it was fun whilst it lasted, but seems you can't take too many risks when it comes to MMO business models.

i hate the idea of pay to play personally i don't have the money to pay a fee of 9,99$ a month, witch ends up being 119.88$ a year.

founders offer for me just about every game I have played like this has been for more than a year so might as well have it constantly changing for one lump sum up front and no buying expansion packs like those Greedy whores at blizzard
