Flagship Studios' forthcoming MMO gets a new character class in the shape of the Cabalist...

In a joint statement Flagship Studios and Namco Bandai have revealed one of the character classes set to feature in the forthcoming MMO, Hellgate: London. Set in a hellish vision of London thirty years in the future following an invasion from demonic forces, Hellgate: London sees gamers form part of the human underground resistance as they attempt to fight off the dark hordes.

The newly announced character class, the Cabalists, are the game's spellcasters, walking the fine line between good and evil as they try to stave off the demonic attacks by learning about the enemy. The spells are broken up into three areas (or 'schools') of arcane magic: Summoning, Spectral, and Transformation.

Summoning spells are Cabalist players to call upon and control some of the demonic forces and force them to fight against their own kind, whilst Spectral spell allow other evil forces to be called upon and unleash powerful attacks. Finally, Transformation spells allow players to physically change their appearance in order to look more like some of the attacking demons; cue horns, claws, and everything in between.

Unveiling the new class, Bill Roper, CEO and co-founder of Flagship Studios, said, "The Cabalist class has been a closely guarded secret since the game's conception...Fans have been asking us for quite a while if we were going to have a character class that focused on spells. With the Cabalist, we know they are going to get exactly what they've been dreaming of."

TVG spoke at length to Bill Roper in 2005 about Hellgate: London, which you can read (in two parts) by going here.

We'll have more on Hellgate: London in the coming weeks.

The decision to shut servers has nothign to do with EA.  They merely distributed the game.  The decision was Namco-Bandai's to shut the game as they owned publishing rights.  They sold the Asian rights to Hanbitsoft, who are currently running Hellgate: London in that territory - but have no rights to run the game anywhere else.

Bye bye Hellgate, I'd like to say it was fun whilst it lasted, but seems you can't take too many risks when it comes to MMO business models.

founders offer for me just about every game I have played like this has been for more than a year so might as well have it constantly changing for one lump sum up front and no buying expansion packs like those Greedy whores at blizzard
