Gearbox Software announces the free release of a multiplayer focussed version…
GearBox Software has recently confirmed its intention to release a new version of Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC. Entitled Halo: Custom Edition, the new version will allow players to create their own multiplayer mods and custom content â?“ surely something that should have been in the PC version from the start.
The free download will weigh in at 170MB and is based upon V1.04 of the PC version; although it doesnâ??t require the original to install, it will require the originalâ??s serial key to install. The Custom Edition will be strictly focussed on multiplayer and not feature any single-player maps from the original.
Sitting alongside the Custom Edition will be the Halo Editing Kit (HEK), allowing users to create their own content through a variety of tools, tutorials and artwork included in the 250MB download.

Halo is a great game, to any one who is reading this, and I insist . . . buy it! It is a little graphic and violent, I won't deny that, but it is the best Xbox game in my book, and the splitscreen mode you can play over and over again!
