Microsoft finally confirm the development of PC and Mac versions of the hit Xbox Sci-Fi FPS...
Microsoft today confirmed that Halo: Combat Evolved is in development for PC and Mac platforms. Originally conceived as a PC title, the title went onto become the Xbox killer title both at launch and to this date. A PC conversion was always on the card according to Microsoft, however news had gone quiet in recent months.

Today the silence was broken as it emerged that Half Life developers, Gearbox Software have taken on development responsibilities for the PC version, whilst WestLake Entertainment are fronting the Mac adaptation, set to be published by Destineer. Both versions are scheduled for a release in 2003, with a PC version hinted for a summer release.

Unfortunately no specific details have been released, however our sources claim that the game will be heavily based on the Xbox original, but will feature a number of improvements particularly in the multiplayer stakes, and in that regard the PC version will be more similar to Bungie’s original concepts.

“We’ve been dying to play Halo online with a PC ever since its spectacular launch last year,” said Gearbox Software President Randy Pitchford. “The team at
Gearbox has the experience and the talent to not only bring Halo to the PC, but also to add enhancements that exploit the multiplayer capabilities that PCs are known for.”

“Our goal is for Mac and Windows users to battle each other on foot, in vehicles, and in the air next summer when the best first-person shooter ever created comes to both Macintosh and Windows,” according to Destineer President Peter Tamte.

Further information will be released later in the year…

Halo is a great game, to any one who is reading this, and I insist . . . buy it! It is a little graphic and violent, I won't deny that, but it is the best Xbox game in my book, and the splitscreen mode you can play over and over again!
