Microsoft to close down Ensemble Studios once it completes work on Halo Wars...
Following rumours over the last 24 hours, Microsoft has now confirmed that it will be closing Ensemble Studios once the developer finishes work on its upcoming RTS, Halo Wars.
"Microsoft has decided to close Ensemble Studios following the completion of Halo Wars," the company revealed in a statement. "After the closure, the Ensemble leadership team will form a new studio and has agreed to provide ongoing support for Halo Wars as well as work on other projects with Microsoft Game Studios."
It seems like a bit of an abrupt ending for a developer that has produced some much loved RTS games since it was founded in 1995. Examples include the three Age of Empires games, which schooled many an RTS gamer over the last decade.
Apparently the decision was "fiscally-rooted", which is a relief - at least Microsoft isn't closing its developers' doors on a whim. While Ensemble's leadership team will form a new studio according to the statement, it also suggests that some employees may lose their jobs over the decision:
"This was a fiscally-rooted decision that keeps MGS on its growth path. While the decision to dissolve Ensemble was not an easy one, Microsoft is working to place as many Ensemble employees who do not move to the newly formed studio into open positions within Microsoft as possible."
All this without Ensemble even being able to prove its worth with the upcoming release of Halo Wars, which might make Microsoft seem a little silly if it's heralded as the best console RTS in history upon release.

Thanks for a really insightful review, it was spot on. Ive really enjoyed this game so far, been a player of RTS for a few years. I think if you treat this game as a fun RTS to play with your mates over a couple of beers etc perfect.

I just got it and HATE it! I hope I can get my money back. It didn't climb the mountain for me. Can stress enough how disappointed I was. It doesn't even deserve to have the word HALO on the box.

If you want to select a single unit, just press 'A' on that unit. Otherwise, RB and LB selects all local or global units.
Hope this helps Gaz.

being a huge fan of c&c games there was a few things i didnt like about the halo wars demo..like how you can only have 30 units on screen at once(could just be in the demo and not full game) and when you try to move a unit or tank past another unit it gets blocked and you have to move the other units out the way to clear the path..(in c&c the other units automatically moved out the way) and also how you cant pick individual units and move them one at a time. as far as i could see it only lets you move the whole army at once or all the units on screen at once..(correct me if im wrong on that one)..did anyone find the same things when they played it?? i'll still get the game as i think the full game will have ways round the issues i had with the demo ..
