Soon-to-be-defunct studio's Lead Designer reveals all in the latest blog update...

Following Microsoft's surprising decision to axe Ensemble Studios it seems Age of Empires fans weren't the only ones left slightly perplexed, with the studio's latest blog entry sharing the same

Ensemble's lead designer Bruce Shelley claims:

"I have mentioned with regret the closing of several quality game studios over the past several years but I never considered that ES would join the list. Everyone at our studio was shocked, and I think remains very disappointed that this is going to happen. I believe we thought we were immune to shut-down talk because our published games have done so well and have been so profitable.

Plus we felt we had built a really stable (low-turnover), talented, hard-working, and creative team, which is not easy to do. We thought we were among the best studios in the world, and that may be true, but we don't fit in the future plans of MGS as an internal studio so we're out."

Revealing that a likely factor behind the decision was that Ensemble Studios' cost per head was possibly higher than that of Rare, Lionhead, Turn 10 and ACES Game Studio, Shelley also claims that titles from these studios would be more fitting than anything Ensemble were working on after Halo Wars.

Regarding Halo Wars, Shelley reveals that the entire team have been working on it since August and hope to have the game finished by the end of the year.

And finally on a more positive note, Shelley suggests things are moving forwards with the new development studio being formed from the ashes of Ensemble Studios by Tony Goodman.

Thanks for a really insightful review, it was spot on. Ive really enjoyed this game so far, been a player of RTS for a few years. I think if you treat this game as a fun RTS to play with your mates over a couple of beers etc perfect.

I just got it and HATE it! I hope I can get my money back. It didn't climb the mountain for me. Can stress enough how disappointed I was. It doesn't even deserve to have the word HALO on the box.

If you want to select a single unit, just press 'A' on that unit.  Otherwise, RB and LB selects all local or global units.

Hope this helps Gaz.

being a huge fan of c&c games there was a few things i didnt like about the halo wars demo..like how you can only have 30 units on screen at once(could just be in the demo and not full game) and when you try to move a unit or tank past another unit it gets blocked and you have to move the other units out the way to clear the path..(in c&c the other units automatically moved out the way) and also how you cant pick individual units and move them one at a time. as far as i could see it only lets you move the whole army at once or all the units on screen at once..(correct me if im wrong on that one)..did anyone find the same things when they played it?? i'll still get the game as i think the full game will have ways round the issues i had with the demo ..

gaz
