Microsoft confirms a late September release date for the 'final' chapter in the Halo trilogy...
Hours before the switch is turned on for the start of the Halo 3 Multiplayer Beta at 1pm BST today, Microsoft Game Studios has today confirmed that Halo 3 will be released across Europe from September 26th, a day after the shooter arrives in the US.
The date, which is earlier than the 'traditional' November release period a for Halo title, marks the continued build up to a congested period towards the end of the year. Grand Theft Auto IV, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Project Gotham Racing 4, and The Club, are just a few of the titles vying for gamers' attention in the final few months of 2007.
Microsoft has also confirmed that it expects Halo 3 to break through the day one sales record currently held by its 2004 predecessor, Halo 2, which stands at $125 million within the first 24-hour period.
"'Halo 3' is much more than a video game release; it's the biggest entertainment event of the year," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business. "At launch we intend to deliver a finale that will go down in entertainment history and leave people around the world with an experience that will be shared and enjoyed for years to come."
