Bungie has revealed on its website that Halo 3 is not the true High Definition experience that Microsoft was championing about with the Xbox 360, running at a resolution of 1152x640, just short of the 720p standard. Bungie attributes the reason to running the game through two video buffers at the lower resolution to maintain the framerate and HDR lighting effects - though this seems like a bit of a copout to us given the developer and game's status, perhaps it's something to do with the six-year old engine?

The announcement was made on Bungie's latest weekly update, where they stated: "The reason we haven't mentioned this before in weekly updates, is the simple fact that it would have distracted conversation away from more important aspects of the game, and given tinfoil hats some new gristle to chew on as they catalogued their toenail clippings."

Now, I can assure you that nobody here at TVG suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and we don't think aliens are trying to communicate with us; neither do we log our bodily waste for that matter. Nevertheless, we couldn't help but notice that equally as action-packed shooters, such as Call of Duty 2 on Xbox 360, have managed to retain a fast framerate, HDR lighting effects, and a true HD resolution to match.

All this and CoD2 was a launch title for crying out loud! This doesn't reflect well on the guys from Bungie or Halo 3 as Microsoft's flagship series and pinnacle first-party developer.
