Bungie finally confirms that online co-op will feature in the upcoming title...
Following reports earlier in the month that online co-operative gameplay was on the verge of not making it in Halo 3, Bungie has today confirmed that the game will in fact have four-player co-op over Xbox Live.
Comments from Bungie Community Manager Frankie O' Conner to US publication EGM at the time suggested that the team was struggling with the feature:
"I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That's a significant challenge...If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will - and if it works badly, we won't."
A representative from the Seattle-based studio today confirmed the news at an event in Amsterdam, and was reported by the Dutch Xbox World. Further details on the feature is set for release later on the official Bungie website, but at least it seems they found a way 'to make it work'.
[Update] Bungie has now updated its website to include additional information about how four-player co-operative gameplay will work in Halo 3. Stamping out any issues about four different Master Chiefs taking the fight to the Covenant, Bungie confirmed that player two would control the Arbiter, whilst players three and four will get to control two new Elite characters, Sangheilis called N'tho 'Sraom and Usze 'Taham. The three Elites will have Covenant Carbines as default weapons, against the trusty Battle Rifle favoured by the Chief.
