Halo 3: Recon Detective Details News
US detective shows providing the inspiration behind Halo's eagerly awaited expansion...
By Chris LeytonPosted: 17/11/2008
Following last week's revelations that Halo 3: Recon would be a smaller, cheaper romp than what we traditionally expect from the series, further details on the expansion have appeared on the net courtesy of Game Informer.
Revealing the starring Orbital Drop Shock Trooper as The Rookie, players take part in a five-man squad sent into Ground Zero of New Mombassa during the events of Halo 2. Somehow your team mates unexpectedly come upon tough times, and it's up to you to discover what happened.
Your goal within the game is to track down the four missing members of the ODST team. Intriguingly once you've discovered one of the team mates the game triggers a flashback, in which you'll control that ODST member for the level. Playing like a traditional Halo level, you'll eventually discover the fate of the fallen team mates and uncover the mysteries surrounding New Mombassa - perhaps even answering, "What on earth happened to all the cut Halo 2 content?"
Of course not having the physique or dual-wielding skills of a Spartan, you do at least get your hands on some new equipment, including a PDA to place waypoints on a map and allegedly a free-roam city to explore, whilst the all-new 'Visual Mode' allows you to visualise opponents with a surrounding glow depicting their location.
Bungie openly describes the experience as, "just like any detective show, Cold Case or Law and Order or whatever, where a detective can arrive at a crime scene, look at the chalk drawings and bullet holes and see what's going on."
Just one more thing... will The Rookie be switching Mjolinir armour for a a trenchcoat to help with these investigations.

gfh-77 there cant be a run-up to halo 3. at the end of halo 2 we see the forerunner ship with master cheif inside coming to earth.
Then at the begining of halo 3 we see that exact same ship with a chunk braking off and crashing with the master cheif inside...at what point could there be a run-up?
we already know the convenent invaded earth, with the elites leading the charge, it would be obviouse that also onj earth the brutes started to kill the elites when the civil war broke out.

the 3 new maps are longbow and that lot, thats what I thought it would be, since all the things together are probably larger than some other games which are alot smaller

The single player experience is gooing to decide this games value for me, if it is long enough, well done like a regular game the the value is there, 3 new maps is worth ten bucks, so the game needs to be worth 50.

why dont they make a halo game set like a side game to halo 2 or the run up to halo 3 at least we'll get the same quality game like halo 3 provided, and as a plus point the game engin could be revamped so all the negatives surrounding weather halo 3 was running lower than 720p could be well and truely wiped clean and they can at least get the game looking better than halo 3 if thats possible which with games like fuel/far cry 2 im sure its possible and will be awsome.

if you've beaten halo 3 on legendary, there is no way thats the last of master chief. The biggest most solid way to END a series is to scrap or kill the very person/character the series is based on.
They've made it clear they don't want to kill the series by any means, so I can pretty much guarantee that master chief will return...
What I doubt is that they'll make a game that continues off of halo 3's storyline. It would be difficult. I think master chief will be in a future project, I think they'll make a game just about master chiefs story and the battle BEFORE things got escalated and other races got involved.
