Introducing a new section for TVG where we take a look at the juiciest rumours spreading around, this week Super Mario Sunshine, Rare, Halo 2…

We hear a lot of rumours here at TVG, some so unbelievably bizarre they make you sit up and take notice.

Super Mario Sunshine

The latest one to do just that is regarding Super Mario Sunshine, a rumour going around is that the game may feature 3D Glasses support, yes the Red & Blue ones you use in the cinema.

The rumour is based on slightly iffy logic, pointing at:

A ‘doubling-effect’ seen in some of the released screenshots.

The relatively poor visuals in comparison to Luigi’s Mansion.

The quote on Nintendo’s web-site “Grab Your Sunglasses”.

Miyamoto’s reluctance to reveal everything, he must be hiding something.

Whilst not exactly circumstantial evidence it is an interesting one nonetheless, unfortunately we doubt the rumour has any validity due to the problems associated with this, in particular a) people with glasses, b) 3D Glasses have NEVER taken off and usually look quite naff.

As always we’ll have to wait until E3 to see whether Miyamoto is hiding anything up his sleeve, just don’t expect it to be a pair of 3D glasses.

Likelihood: 1/5

Rare Multi-Platform???

Another juicy rumour is that Rare will have a PS2 title at E3, strongly suggested to be the next Perfect Dark. Rumours have been mounting for months regarding Rare moving to multi-platform development, teasingly highlighted by Rare’s Christmas Card and the strong rumours that Activision has purchased a large stake in the company.

The facts thus far:

Out of any of the games Rare are associated with Perfect Dark makes the most sense, the license is solely owned by Rare and has no ties with Nintendo as with Starfox.

Rare have taken a strict ‘No Comment’ policy in recent weeks, could this be hinting at a big announcement at E3.

In an E3 roundup featured in an English PS2 magazine, the article questioned what Rare have got in store for the PS2..

Once again not exactly concrete facts, but it wouldn’t be a rumour if they were. The fact remains though, that this has been one rumour that has refused to go away.

Likelihood: 3/5

Halo 2 At E3

If one title can pick Xbox sales back up it’s this. Fresh after conquering Japan, new information could re-ignite flagging interest in Microsoft’s box, and it’s true that their current E3 line-up looks a little shallow, hopefully they’re not putting all of their faith in Xbox Live. Those who saw the ending of Halo will know that a sequel is definitely on the way, and for Bungie to develop a sequel so soon would make a lot of sense. The rumour suggests that a Q4 02 release is on the cards, just in time for a Christmas #1???

Likelihood: 4/5

Well that’s it for this weeks Rumour Roundup, remember if you’ve heard a juicy rumour, or know something that everyone else doesn’t send them into chrisl@totalvideogames.com.
