Hang 'Em High and Derelict reworked and improved for Halo 2...

It may be well over two years old, however, Master Chief's adventures in Halo 2 remains a fixture in the Xbox Live Most Played list and the biggest Microsoft title to date.

In preparation for the third and final chapter, Microsoft and Bungie today announced the release of two new multiplayer maps, available as a premium download for both the Xbox and Xbox 360 on April 17th.

Answering fan requests, the two "new" maps are recreations of those found in the original Halo, improved, and redesigned by Bungie and Certain Affinity Inc. Halo fans will recognise Certain Affinity as the studio formed by Max Hoberman, former Multiplayer Lead on the Halo titles.

One of the most popular maps in the history of the series, Hang 'Em High has been redesigned as Tombstone for Halo 2, featuring all-new graphics, features and a number of surprises.

The second map is a rework of the original Derelict map, now titled Desolation. Along with graphical improvements, Bungie promises a gameplay overhaul, resulting in a faster paced and more balanced experience for Halo 2.

Both maps will be available for $4, although Microsoft has yet to confirm how owners of the original Xbox will be able to purchase these. Presumably both maps will also feature in the forthcoming release of Halo 2 on the Games for Windows for Vista.
