ISPs faced a huge amount of pressure as a result of Halo 2’s release with a four-fold increase in demand…

Halo 2â??s release in November has resulted in network traffic being quadrupled for the typical Internet Service Providers, thatâ??s according to network solutions provider, Sandvine Incorporated. If this signalled the beginning of a new trend then online gamers may have to pay that little bit extra in the future â?“ if Sandvine get their way at least.

Announcing the news, Marc Morin, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of Sandvine Incorporated said, â??The explosion in Xbox Live traffic attributed to Halo 2 should be seen as a clarion callâ?¦Service Providers need to enhance the broadband experience for these high-end users by prioritizing or reserving bandwidth for games and other kinds of latency-sensitive and feature-rich applications.â?

With both PS3 and Xbox2 expected to continue pushing towards online gaming in the mainstream, it seems as if the net will have to take the strain to an even greater degree in the future, so premium reserved bandwidth may be the way of the future; we donâ??t mind as long we stop getting lag on Big Team Battlesâ?¦

Weâ??ll have more shortlyâ?¦
