Half Life 2 DeathMatch is good to go, and to kickstart the Mod community Valve have announced a map-making competition...

Valve today communicated the release of a DeathMatch mode for Half Life 2; and although it lacks the direction of Counter Strike: Source in the multiplayer stakes, the sheer presence of the Gravity Gun and the physics engine ensures that itâ??s a blast to play and well worth the download.

Weighing in at 30MB, the DeathMatch mode features two maps â?“ LockDown and Overwatch â?“ both of which are staged within City 17. The game is a very simple affair with basic team options, although we fully expect the Mod community to blow open the range of maps and game types available.

To kickstart this, Valve has announced a DeathMatch Map Contest, in which winners can walk away with a $5000 first-prize, whilst two runner-upâ??s will each pocket $3000. To find details on how to enter the event, please visit the DeathMatch Map Contest Entrants Page.
