Will it make the September 30th release date, our sources say no but hopefully it won't be too far behind...

The release of ‘Half-Life 2’ on September 30th is still a contentious subject; whilst Vivendi Universal have assured everyone that the game is still on for this date, the lack of any review code to date certainly sends out a worrying sign.

Today TVG heard a few whispers suggesting that the release has indeed been put back to October 17th; although we suspect this refers to the American release, we’re hoping that Vivendi Universal are sticking with plans to release the game worldwide on the same date.

However the hottest information surrounds the rumours that Valve will release three different versions and charge for online play. This was dismissed by our source who claims that the game will be fully playable online without any charge, although naturally these things are always subject to change.

It’s been claimed that Valve will make ‘Half Life 2’ available exclusively on its premium content delivery system ‘Steam’ before the October 17th release; whilst we’d certainly like to see this happen, we can’t help but feel that this will increase the risk of pirated copies unless Valve’s anti-piracy measures are as watertight as they’re rumoured to be.

We’d like to point out that at this stage this is just rumour, however the release date of ‘Half Life 2’ is one of the most talked about subjects in the industry at the moment; we’ll do our best to try and uncover some more concrete information in the meantime.
