Rumours surface indicating that Valve's next Half-Life 2 instalment will not arrive during the coming year...

As gamers eagerly await the return of Gordon Freeman like a sailor's wife at port, rumours have surfaced indicating that Half-Life 2: Episode Three won't arrive in 2010 despite earlier assurances from Gabe Newell that Valve is still working on the project.

The February issue of US mag Game Informer allegedly states that Valve won't be releasing a new Half-Life title in 2010. Reports from Cinema Blend indicate that it is unclear whether this refers to Episode Three or a second Half-Life sequel but, either way, it seems that neither game will be emerging this year.

In 2008, Valve's Doug Lombardi stated that, "The next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between HL2 to Ep1, and Ep1 to Ep2." Given that the wait for Episode One was almost two years, this projected an earliest possible release window of 2010 for Episode Three.

At the same time, Lombardi also hinted that Valve was planning an Episode Three announcement or reveal of some sort for the end of 2008, which obviously never surfaced. The most recent statement from Valve on the subject comes from Gabe Newell, who stated last August, "Yes, of course we're doing Episode Three."

We've sent out an e-mail to Doug Lombardi for some clarification on the issue and will update this article as soon as we know more...

Too true man, even though L4D & L4D2 is great games, they shoulden't be delayin the games people want the most (I mean, L4D2 came out a year after the first one, and that game kinda had all the stuff wich should be in the first game) so hopefully this delay is the last we get...

Yeah, I think we're all a bit cheesed off that Episode 3 is taking so long. Valve has clearly been focussing on Left 4 Dead games over the past year or two, but you've got to ask yourself why when the fans are waiting eagerly for Episode 3 and Portal 2.

They could at least say "we're hard at  work on it".  Not something like "We can't tell you why it hasn't come out yet".   I like Valve, but I'm not some mindless fanboy who will just like a company no matter what.
