Exclusive PS2 title set to focus on rock hits from the 1980s; spin-off set for a summer release...

After months of rumour and here say, Activision has finally confirmed the development of a spin-off Guitar Hero title for PlayStation2. Featuring music from the 1980s, Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s will be exclusive to the current-gen platform, and include the likes of Quiet Riot and Twisted Sister as part of the 30-track line-up.

So far only 10 tracks have been revealed, with more set at a later date:

  • Wanna Rock (by Twisted Sister)
  • I Ran (by Flock of Seagulls)
  • Round and Round (as made famous by Ratt)
  • I Want Candy (as made famous by Bow Wow Wow)
  • Metal Health (as made famous by Quiet Riot)
  • Holy Diver (as made famous by Dio)
  • Heat Of The Moment (as made famous by Asia)
"The 80s features an amazing variety of rock genres from hair metal to punk to new wave, and our dedicated Guitar Hero fans will definitely appreciate the opportunity to play all the new and exciting content we've added," said Dusty Welch, head of publishing at RedOctane. "As we delve deeper into the history of rock, we'll continue to offer a fresh experience and even more explosive tracks with the Guitar Hero franchise."

The spin-off will be the last title in the Guitar Hero franchise to be developed by Harmonix, who are currently hard at work producing Rock Band for MTV Games. Whilst the release itself may be exclusive to PS2, it's unclear whether these tracks will form future downloadable song packs on Xbox 360 - but quite frankly we'd surprised if they were left out.

No spectacular songs there, just your typical hair metal. seriously though what is the point of this game? Just get a guitar for gods sake
