The rock group looks set to follow in the footsteps of Aerosmith with their own focused edition of the Red Octane franchise...

Despite the fact that three Guitar Hero instalments are due to arrive within a matter of months, it seems that Activision just can't get enough of the rockin' Red Octane franchise. A recent company filing, uncovered by an analyst at Wedbush Morgan, has revealed that a fourth is due before the end of Activision's fiscal year in March 2009.

According to the filing, Guitar Hero: Metallica will follow the already confirmed 'On Tour', 'World Tour', and 'Aerosmith' editions, and will presumably follow the same road to rock glory path that the Steve Tyler-fronted instalment is set to walk at the end the month.

Further details will no doubt get drip fed once Activision officially announces the game, but the band is expected to launch their ninth studio album this September - perhaps a timely tie-in? If however the Metallica-focused title is launched after Guitar Hero: World Tour, will it take advantage of the new instruments like the dual-cymbal drum kit?

Metallica just launched their official Canadian merch store and I just bought some awesome new shirts. I saw them when they played in Toronto in December and it was one of the best shows I've ever been to. You can check out the new store at killthe8 dot com
