Tom Morello to appear as a boss character in Activision's upcoming Guitar Hero III release this Christmas...

Legendary Rage Against The Machine, Audioslave and Nightwatchman guitarist Tom Morello will be appearing as a boss character in Activision's upcoming Guitar Hero III. The highly successful rhythm game, which will feature a unique Gibson Les Paul styled guitar peripheral for this third instalment, is due for European release over the coming Christmas period.

Boss battles are a key new feature in the series where gamers will go up against their own Guitar Heroes such as Slash and now Tom Morello. In these battles, players are tasked with depleting a boss' rock meter. If the gamer doesn't achieve this then the boss goes into their 'death-drain solo' and subsequently puts an end to your dreams of rock 'n roll superstardom.

However, once the boss is defeated one of their well known tracks becomes available and the boss will perform that track alongside you on screen. In Morello's case it's Rage Against The Machine's Bulls On Parade, featuring the unique toggle switch tampering guitar solo.

"Whenever I play Guitar Hero my opponent always kicks my ass on my own riffs. It's embarrassing," said Morello. "Now that I'm actually IN the game I hope the digital me will win once in awhile!"

It'll be interesting to see whether Neversoft manage to translate Morello's unique electro-maniac approach to playing the guitar, as well as his highly strapped foot stomping style.

"We are thrilled to have two guitar icons of our generation on board to be bosses in Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock," said Tim Riley, Activision's worldwide executive of music. "Both Morello and Slash went into the studio and created mind-blowing original recordings designed to be challenging for even the expert players."
