Just taking a year out...
Remember when Activision shuttered its Guitar Hero business unit and announced there would be no new music or skateboarding games in 2011? Turns out there might be some in 2012.
"Actually, just to clarify, we're just putting Guitar Hero on hiatus, we're not ending it," Activision VP Dan Winters told GamesIndustry.biz. "We're releasing products out of the vault - we'll continue to sustain the channel, the brand won't go away. We're just not making a new one for next year, that's all."
Meanwhile, venerable skating legend Tony Hawk has revealed in an interview with Pixelated Geek that new skateboarding games are on the cards.
"We're actually right in the middle of making a whole new plan right now. We're going to do something probably for next year but I can't give too much away," he said. "But definitely we're going to make new games, yes."
Activision blamed high costs and lack of demand on the cancellation of its peripheral-based music games, and shelved the Tony Hawk's series as part of its annual financial report early this year. Recent Tony Hawk's titles have suffered from poor sales.
