NCsoft confirms that over two million units of ArenaNet's subscription-free MMO have been sold...
NCsoft Europe has today confirmed that the number of units sold globally of ArenaNet's Guild Wars franchise has passed through the two million mark, fourteen months after the game was first launched. Released at the end of April 2005, the first instalment of the series was followed a year later with the launch of Guild Wars: Factions, with a third instalment currently in development.
"We're incredibly pleased with Guild Wars' performance in Europe," said Max Brown, European Sales & Operations Director. "Guild Wars Prophecies was number one for 6 weeks when it launched in April 2005 now we are back with Guild Wars Factions which went number one all across Europe in its week of launch. The interesting thing we are seeing now is that Guild Wars Prophecies is back in the top ten, so the success of Guild Wars Factions is driving sales of Guild Wars Prophecies. The Guild Wars franchise offers tremendous value for money and the reappearance in the charts is a reflection of this."
"ArenaNet continues to take chances in both game design and business model, and it's great to have the fans respond so enthusiastically right out of the gate with Guild Wars Factions," says Patrick Wyatt, co-founder of ArenaNet. "Our fans have been overwhelmingly supportive of Guild Wars and we will continue to make the Guild Wars franchise bigger and better with each release."
We'll have more news on the third instalment of Guild Wars later in the year.

GW has the best PvP system and game mechanics. GW GvG >PvP in every other game. WoW PvE may be more entertaining to some grind-lovers.

Yes Guild Wars is probably the best FREE MMORPG out there right now i would strongly suggest it for people who dont want to pay each month :P beside it has a good storey line and pretty long good game

If they make it so that we have to pay to play, they will loose TONS of business! What makes Guildwars so unique is the free online play, and taking that away would be like putting guildwars down. Rusty syringe and all!

I'm guessing you LIVE in Europe.. I kinda thing it's more like America but hey, to each his own. I think Guild Wars is a decent game (I only own the first installment.) I haven't yet played all the way through, but I do like the fact that it's basically a single-player game that you can play with friends. It's a very large single player game, too. The story gets a little murky after you get past the mountain ranges, though. I've been considering whether or not I'll purchase Factions or Nightfall. I'll probably check out Nightfall since it sounds more like the original game. They did a decent job with the game and have proven that you don't need to charge huge monthly fees to run an online MMORPG. It makes one thing "Then why does WoW and EQ cost so much per month just so I can keep my character from being deleted?"
