Final three Beta Test Weekends announced by ArenaNet and NCSoft ahead of the launch on April 28th 2005...
It has today been announced by ArenaNet and NCSoft that the MMORPG Guild Wars will be launched on April 28th 2005. Ahead of the release, the two companies have confirmed that there will be three final Beta Test Weekends on February 18thâ?“20th 2005, March 18th-20th 2005, and April 17th-19th 2005.
The testing weekend in February will allow players to explore the Kingdom of Ascalon before â??The Searingâ?? by the Charr and in order to participate in the test, gamers will have to buy the preorder package or enter a competition to win one of the access codes â?“ go to Guild Wars for more details on that. ArenaNet has confirmed that only players who have preordered the game will be able to take part in the testing weekends in March and April.
It seems that Guild Wars is starting to gather a lot of momentum as North American retailer EB Games have confirmed that it has become one of the most popular preorder titles to date so far this year; and itâ??s not only captured the imagination of the Western Hemisphere either as The Electronic Times has reported that the game is the most anticipated title of 2005 in South Korea.
One of the attractions of Guild Wars is that it allows gamers from across the globe to play together and as ArenaNet and NCSoft have been pressing, â??There are no sharded servers, no language-specific versions of the game and nothing to keep players from exploring the game world with friends from other countries.â?
Announcing a release date of April 28th 2005, Patrick Wyatt, ArenaNet co-founder said, "Guild Wars has been a global game since we wrote the first line of code four years agoâ?¦When Guild Wars launches in April players around the world will be able to experience the game together."
Incidentally for those players who have preordered the game, the gates to Ascalon opens a day early on April 27th 2005. Weâ??ll have more on Guild Wars shortly...

GW has the best PvP system and game mechanics. GW GvG >PvP in every other game. WoW PvE may be more entertaining to some grind-lovers.

If they make it so that we have to pay to play, they will loose TONS of business! What makes Guildwars so unique is the free online play, and taking that away would be like putting guildwars down. Rusty syringe and all!

I'm guessing you LIVE in Europe.. I kinda thing it's more like America but hey, to each his own. I think Guild Wars is a decent game (I only own the first installment.) I haven't yet played all the way through, but I do like the fact that it's basically a single-player game that you can play with friends. It's a very large single player game, too. The story gets a little murky after you get past the mountain ranges, though. I've been considering whether or not I'll purchase Factions or Nightfall. I'll probably check out Nightfall since it sounds more like the original game. They did a decent job with the game and have proven that you don't need to charge huge monthly fees to run an online MMORPG. It makes one thing "Then why does WoW and EQ cost so much per month just so I can keep my character from being deleted?"
