NCsoft toasts the success of its subscription-free MMO series...

NCsoft and ArenaNet today celebrated sales of the Guild Wars series passing the four million mark. Setting the standard for online co-op and competitive play, Guild Wars has achieved success within two years of launch thanks largely to the subscription-free model

"ArenaNet's fantastic work on Guild Wars has helped make NCsoft the leading online gaming publisher in the world," said Robert Garriott, CEO of NCsoft North America. "Guild Wars players continue to join in droves and stay loyal to the franchise thanks to a business model that makes for a very accessible product. We are all excited about the future of Guild Wars with the expansion ready to be released and Guild Wars 2(tm) on the horizon."

"Four million units sold is an impressive number and demonstrates that Guild Wars is a proven franchise," said Bob McKenzie, Senior Vice President of Merchandising, GameStop Corporation. "The Guild Wars franchise delivers an outstanding gaming experience and is clearly an important part of our PC games offerings."

This weekend NCsoft will provide Guild Wars fans a look at the forthcoming expansion pack, Guild Wars: Eye of the North. The Sneak Peak Weekend takes place during August 24-26th, providing fan an early glimpse of the wild beasts of the Far Shiverpeaks region. Available to everybody who has purchased the Guild Wars: Eye of the North pre-release bonus pack, any loot, items, XP and Heroes earned during the weekend will be available when the game launches on August 31st.

Wow, I haven't played Guild Wars in like 2 years (not my fault, my cousin was supposed to give me his copy 2 years ago because he was bored with the game, but decided to keep it to play some more.) and there's another expansion already in the works? Jeez. I haven't played any of the other expansions, just the original. I've got a lot of catching up to do in very little time. Oh, and congrats to AreaNet on the 4 million. It was bound to happen cause Guild Wars is awesome. Now if only we could get rid of WoW's fee... (What, I like my money.)
