Tiger Woods and EA Sports' first stab at tennis become the first titles to benefit from the new Wii MotionPlus dongle...

EA Sports has today confirmed two titles compatible with Nintendo's upcoming Wii MotionPlus dongle, which allows for 1:1 motion control.

The first, Tiger Woods PGA World Tour 10, is perhaps no surprise.  Featuring some of the world's greatest golfers and courses, World Tour 10's MotionPlus functionality will now mean that players won't be able to blame the restrictions of the Wii-remote.

Not content with enjoying a near-stranglehold on sports-based video games, EA Sports is also adding a new recreational activity to its bulging roster – tennis.  Billed as 'EA Sports Grand Slam Tennis', the new title will also enjoy compatibility with the MotionPlus dongle, and feature all four grandslam tournaments (and exclusively include Wimbledon).

“On the Wii, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 10 and EA SPORTS Grand Slam Tennis bring the authentic motion and excitement of championship golf and tennis to life for fans of all ages and skill levels,” said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. “With the new Wii MotionPlus, slicing a winner on Centre Court at Wimbledon or dropping an 8 iron pin high on No. 17 at TPC Sawgrass have never felt better. We couldn’t be more excited about the dynamic new EA SPORTS experiences coming this year to the Wii.”

In addition to Tiger Woods and Grand Slam Tennis, EA Sports has confirmed that there's five titles in development for release in 2009 made to take advantage of Wii.

if the writer actually bothered to do their research they would have realised that EA actually made IMG International Tennis on the Sega Genesis. That makes the first couple of paragraphs of the article redundant. I am sure if I read on I would have found numerous other flaws.

Thanks for the heads-up. I've updated the article above and marked the mistake about manual control on the Nunchuk accordingly.

As far as the MotionPlus sensitivity is concerned, I'm not saying that Grand Slam Tennis won't be like the EA demo trailers we've seen so far. My point is just that were going to need more hands on time before we give a final verdict.

The jury is definitely still out on MotionPlus and how EA is utilising it in Grand Slam Tennis at this early stage, as I made clear in the article.

Thanks again for the correction.

Uhhhh.  What's going on here?  IGN's hands-on from back in March indicated a much more sensitive WiiMotion Plus control scheme.  And they also mention the option to plug in the nunchuck.

Maybe they dumbed down the controls since March in light of the "EA Says WiiMotion Plus Too Sensitive" headlines.

Or maybe I didn't read this article thoroughly enough.
