EA Takes To The Court With Tennis News

EA confirms development of a tennis title initially for Wii with other versions to follow...

Grand Slam Tennis

Conquering the last remaining popular sport, EA Sports today announced that it is taking to the court with confirmation that a tennis game is currently in development at EA Canada.

Unsurprisingly the untitled project is initially in development for the racquet-friendly Wii, with other unconfirmed versions to follow shortly after. The Wii version will integrate MotionPlus support, suggesting this should be the most accurate tennis title to-date on the format.

Promising to be the only videogame to feature the All England Lawn Tennis Club, home of Wimbledon, we no doubt EA will lavish the usual high presentation levels and an abundance of licenses and likenesses.

"As we look to expand the EA SPORTS brand and captivate sports fans from around the world with rich new interactive experiences, it was obvious that the renaissance we're seeing in the sport of tennis provides us with a big opportunity," said Peter Moore, President, EA SPORTS. "Our new tennis franchise, coming first to the Wii, will put fans right into the action and provide the excitement, tension and drama that true champions feel in legendary matches - like the classic from Wimbledon just last month."

if the writer actually bothered to do their research they would have realised that EA actually made IMG International Tennis on the Sega Genesis. That makes the first couple of paragraphs of the article redundant. I am sure if I read on I would have found numerous other flaws.

Thanks for the heads-up. I've updated the article above and marked the mistake about manual control on the Nunchuk accordingly.

As far as the MotionPlus sensitivity is concerned, I'm not saying that Grand Slam Tennis won't be like the EA demo trailers we've seen so far. My point is just that were going to need more hands on time before we give a final verdict.

The jury is definitely still out on MotionPlus and how EA is utilising it in Grand Slam Tennis at this early stage, as I made clear in the article.

Thanks again for the correction.

Uhhhh.  What's going on here?  IGN's hands-on from back in March indicated a much more sensitive WiiMotion Plus control scheme.  And they also mention the option to plug in the nunchuck.

Maybe they dumbed down the controls since March in light of the "EA Says WiiMotion Plus Too Sensitive" headlines.

Or maybe I didn't read this article thoroughly enough.
