Steal some cars and get down to some dodgy action.

After loads of delays, finally we see the Dreamcast version of one of the most amoral, violent games ever known to man. Nick cars, run over people, chase the police then get out and shoot them with a large selection of superb weapons.

You start off as a hard nut who needs to work his way up in the gangster civilization. Which basically means you need to earn respect from various gangs around the city. How? By carrying out simple tasks, which start of easy but the progress to be quite tough, these include killing opposite gang members, help your fellow gangsters raid banks. As all the gangs are at war with each other completing tasks for one will make you an enemy to the others which is very cool as they start shooting at you when you drive past, but it does make it easier when ploughing them down on the highway.

So you can imagaine the picture right? Driving through a vast city hijacking cars by pressing 'X', running over a few people etc. However by doing this you are certainly going to piss off the cops and it won't be long before they are on your tail, and once they have you in their sight they will never let go, only until you are smashed up in the nearest street shop.

The games graphics are still in 2D, which is good and bad in both respects. The game plays fine as it is and it won't be long before you find yourself addicted to the gangster elements. However for those of you that were expecting a 'Violent Crazy Taxi' look away. The visuals are very impressive, with stylish lighting effects which help create the atmosphere. Bombs explode, people go flying, cars screech round corners, and rush hour becomes a multi-car pile-up. Fun. Fun. Fun.

The sound track is one of the best ever heard in a game, as you hijack different vehicles, each will have their own choice of a radio station. The DJ dialogue is quite funny at times, but the tunes played are fantastic. Well done guys, we like a nice tune when stealing cars and running people over, kinda makes it that much easier.

Grand Theft Auto 2 on the Dreamcast is a standard conversion, nothing terribly new. If you have the PC or PlayStation version don't spend your money on buying it for the Dreamcast. However if this is new to you, run down to your nearest store and grab yourself a copy. That is of course if you are old enough.
