Sony confirms a record-breaking Day One shipping figure of over three million copies of Gran Turismo...

One the day of its PAL release, Sony have announced that Gran Turismo 4, the latest incarnation if the PlayStation2â??s flagship driving game, has broken Day One shipping records for the region with 3,182,535 units across the PAL based territories.

With an astounding number of cars available to play (over 700 including the 10 bonus vehicles added to the PAL version), Gran Turismo 4 includes a variety of new features including a Photo Mode, new tracks including the daunting Nurburgring Nordschleife, and the so-called B-Spec racing manager modeâ?¦but no damage modelling.

Announcing the figures David Reeves, President, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe said, â??The reaction to Gran Turismo 4 from retailers across PAL territories has exceeded even our high expectationsâ?¦This Day One number reflects the popularity and broad appeal of the series â?“ not only with seasoned GT buyers but with driving fans, motoring enthusiasts and casual gamers alike. We expect Gran Turismo 4 to become the â??must-haveâ? title for anyone who owns a PlayStation 2 or anyone thinking about purchasing one.â?

â??I am delighted by the enthusiasm for Gran Turismo 4,â? said Kazunori Yamauchi, creator of the GT series. â??The game has been a long time in the making and is fuelled by the passion and dedication of the team here at Polyphony Digital. My dream was to create more than a sequel â?“ to redefine what a video game could be. I hope that when players experience the realism, variety and sheer depth of Gran Turismo 4, they will agree that this vision has been realised.â?

Weâ??ll have more on Gran Turismo 4 very soon...
