EA confirms a port of Rogue Agent to the DS; leaving us to question why lord, WHY?...
Rumours of a Bond appearance on the Nintendo DS have steadily increased in the last few months, with suggestions varying from a port of the Nintendo64 classic to an all-new original outing for the special agent.
Sadly neither looks likely to be true, as today EA confirmed a port of the disastrous Goldeneye: Rogue Agent for the Nintendo DS; although whether or not EA can actually create a solid fps experience on the handheld and improve upon its console origins remains doubtful at this stage.
"We are thrilled to bring GoldenEye: Rogue Agent to the Nintendo DS and create distinctive new features to benefit from the platform's unique technology," said Jon Dean, Executive Producer at EA Tiburon. "Playing this action-packed game on the go and right in the palm of your hands is incredible. Bond fans will not be disappointed."
Once again players assume the role of a former MI6 Secret Agent, kicked out from the organisation for brutality and excessive force. Recruited by Auric Goldfinger in a ruthless war against Dr. No, players must wreak havoc as they make their unrelenting rise through the ranks of villainy.
The DS version supports Wireless Multiplayer modes for eight players using just one cartridge (probably a reason for that â?“ ho hum); in a despairing lack of imagination, the second-screen is merely used as a HUD, providing information such as ammunition, health and allowing you to hack electronic devices, decode security locks and more. The game supports left and right-handed control set-ups, along with providing support for stylus and thumb-pad play; in addition, an all-new â??Virtual Trainingâ? mode is included, allowing players to sharpen their edge and gain experience by defeating infamous Bond villains in order to earn valuable weaponry upgrades.
Goldeneye: Rogue Agent is scheduled for release in June; weâ??ll have more information soon.
