God of War III director shares his thoughts on where his predecessors would have taken the trilogy...
Three different directors have been behind the three titles in the God of War series, but despite managing to ensure a consistent quality throughout it seems the way in which the trilogy would end has changed with each new person at the helm.
Stig Asmussen brought the trilogy to a conclusion with the release of God of War 3, but it wasn't the ending that the series creator David Jaffe originally envisioned. GamePro recently talked to Asmussen, who shared his thoughts on how his predecessors wanted the series to end.
"What David Jaffe talked about doing was, and I'm not sure how it would happen, basically, you destroy Greek mythology and then Norse mythology is right around the corner",Asmussen told GamePro. "That's the next thing that Kratos would go after. It becomes clear at the end that he's going to become this harbinger of death across different mythologies in the world and maybe carry the series on from there."
Shortly after the release of God of War David Jaffe left Sony and director duties fell to Cory Barlog for the sequel, who it seems had a different interpretation of where the series was heading.
"Cory Barlog talked about Kratos becoming Death", Asmussen claimed. "He pretty much becomes the Grim Reaper at the end of the game and his blades become sickles. They're both incredibly good ideas, but you need a director to be passionate about the story and understand it intimately. If I had used Dave or Cory's idea, I wouldn't have been as passionate about it."
To make matters even more confusing, Jaffe recently waded in with further commentary via Twitter.
"I assure you my story was not as simple as Kratos going after the Norse gods. There is an element of truth but it goes far beyond."
"I love Cory, he rocks. But that was my idea. Blades of Chaos becomes the Scythe of the Reaper. BUT still, lots more. Up2Sony2reveal"
"Stig is mistaken :) Much of this was planned at end of GOW 1, well b4 Stig was directing GOW."
Considering that Kratos was always destined to be the reason behind the demise of Greek mythology, the idea of him being the harbinger of doom for further mythologies is the most exciting and plausible fit - if Sony wanted to continue taking the brand forwards.
Back in 2006 TVG interviewed God of War II's Cory Barlog, who shared the following thoughts on the conclusion:
"As for PS3 and a third God of War for the franchise... We'll have to wait and see. I would love to see a trilogy happen. Dave and I have a pretty similar view as to where the story of Kratos should go and it does play itself out in a trilogy, but there are no trilogy plans as of right now. We are telling the continuation of Kratos life as we left off from the first game. The story in God of War II will begin to show a larger view of Kratos' role within the mythological world."

lol night vision goggles i got em for £30 also you can now get mw2 nvg pack for £85, ps anyone played the crap gt5 demo yet lol how can you justify a game like gt by giving people a demo thats just over 200mb and thats gt5 not gt5p if sony are realy serious about the ps3 they should have given a demo a lot more thought than what they have for gt5.

There is no faulting the God of War series - even the PSP's Chains of Olympus is awesome. The latest God of War 3 trailer looks stunning - here's hoping the story and gameplay are still spot-on ;-)
